Sooke's popularity as a scenic tourist destination has existed for generations. Well-known destinations in Sooke, such as Whiffin Spit Park, the Sooke Potholes Regional Park and adjacent Sooke Potholes Provincial Park, attract visitors both locally and from around the world. Sooke is also home to the Sooke Region Museum and Visitor Centre, which offers brochures, flat maps and in-person advice on how best to enjoy the region. The area's popularity has increased as a base for visiting the wilderness parks of Vancouver Island's southwest coast — the West Coast Trail and the Juan de Fuca Provincial Park which includes the now highly popular Juan de Fuca Marine Trail. Sooke, BC is also famous for its beaches just on the outskirts of its neighbouring communities such as Shirley and Jordan River. These beaches include Sandcut, French Beach, Fishboat Bay, China Beach, Mystic Beach and more. Mystic Beach was rated as one of the world's Top-50 beaches in 2022.

Mountain biking is growing in popularity in British Columbia, and Sooke is establishing itself as a destination for the sport. Local advocacy groups such as the Sooke Bike Club are working to have areas such as Broom Hill set aside as parkland.

The Galloping Goose Regional Trail, part of the Trans-Canada Trail, runs through Sooke and is a popular cycling route to Victoria.

Nestled just off of the main Sooke Road, only seconds away from Downtown Sooke, this park provides beautiful scenery that is accessible to all.

Sooke is part of Greater Victoria School District No. 62 which includes 4 elementary schools, and 1 secondary school. The following schools are located within the Sooke area.

Edward Milne Community School:

Public secondary school with roughly 700 students attend this school, in both regular & french immersion programs. The school services Sooke, East Sooke, Jordan River & Port Renfrew.

Ecole Poirier:

Public elementary school offering instruction to students K to grade 5 in French Immersion. 

Sooke Elementary:

Public elementary school offering instruction to students from K to grade 5. 

Saseenos Elementary: Public elementary school offering instruction to students from K to grade 5.

John Muir Elementary: 

Public elementary school offering instruction from K to grade 5.


COMMUNITY CENTRES, FACILITIES & Libraries

Sooke Community Hall: The Sooke Community Association operates the largest hall in the Sooke area with a capacity for 500 people, featuring a large raised stage, kitchen and washroom facilities. The Sooke Community Hall is host to numerous local events such as the Sooke Fall FairAll Sooke Arts & Crafts Show, community dances and fundraising events, and rentals are available for weddings or private events. In a declared State of Emergency, the Sooke Community Hall will become the designated Emergency Reception Center for the Municipality of Sooke.. 

SEAPARC Leisure Complex: Accessible by car, bus & bike this recreation center offers activities for all ages. 

Vancouver Island Regional Library - Sooke: The Sooke branch of the Vancouver Island Regional Library system was established in 1963 and is located in the town center.

Sooke Fine Arts Show: The Sooke Fine Arts Show provides the opportunity for the finest artists from Vancouver Island and BC’s coastal islands to showcase and sell their work.

West Coast Grill: Located at the Prestige Oceanfront Resort, West Coast Grill offers delectable and fresh culinary creations to suit every appetite.

Village Food Markets: A full service Sooke grocery store, located in the Sooke Centre Mall and open 7am - 9pm daily.

Western Foods: Since 1974 their family run business has served the western community and in 1995 they expanded with their second store in Sooke.
