Welcome to View Royal & Westshore! Also referred to as the Western Communities, Westshore represents multiple suburban municipalities located at the South end of the Capital Region, including Colwood, Langford, Metchosin, and the Highlands, and encompasses the popular residential areas of Bear Mountain and Royal Bay.  View Royal is a suburban community that borders Westshore and shares close access to may of the same parks and amenities.

The Canadian West Coast’s very first lighthouse, and the site of a historical artillery fort from 1895 to 1956. Explore the lighthouse and old military bunkers. Find out more!

A Breathtaking 1908 Edwardian estate that’s  located on 565-acres of oceanfront green space, including a Japanese Garden, Italian Garden, and Rose Garden. The grounds and gardens provide a delightful destination for walking, jogging, and picnicking. 565 oceanfront acres of land that were originally occupied by the Coast Salish, Xwsepsum and Lkwungen people, long before becoming home to the wealthy and influential Dunsmuir Family in 1907. In 1940, the land was purchased and used by the Government of Canada as a naval training centre and college. Today, the land is still home to the magnificent Hatley Castle and gardens, as well as Royal Roads University. The University has a dedicated space that serves as a museum showcasing the history of the land, which is accessible by Guided Walking Estate Tours that are offered from May to September. One of the most spectacular sandy beaches in Westshore. This beach stretches out for miles and includes an enclosed lagoon and sandspit, offering an ideal place to sunbathe in summer and stroll all-year-round. Offers exceptional ocean views and stargazing. It's also located next to the historical sites of Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse NHS and Hatley Castle. Because the lagoon serves as a federal Migratory Bird Sanctuary, dogs are permitted so long as they are kept on-leash at all times. Located on Metchosin Road in Colwood (adjacent to the Colwood Fire Department), this little museum operated by The Historical Society, features firefighting artifacts from past-generation fire fighters who served the local community. Find out more!

National historic site located in Esquimalt Harbour. Features buildings and bunkers from as early as 1859 that were once used as an ammunition depot by the Royal Canadian Navy. Easily accessed by boat or kayak. Find out more!

Located in the heart of Langfords urban hub. The centre of the park features a cenotaph honouring fallen Canadian veterans, and hosts Langford's annual Remembrance Day celebrations as well as other community events throughout the year. One of Vancouver Island's most famous outdoor attractions and hiking destinations. Goldstream Park & Mount Finlayson are rich with native plantation and wildlife, and feature trails that are perfect for hiking. During the months of mid-October through December, spectators visit Goldstream River to witness thousands of wild salmon as they make their treacherous swim upstream to spawn. Located a short drive from the Westshore area, in the neighbouring district of Sooke. Enjoy an exhilarating zipline tour over the majestic treetops of Sooke's old growth forest. Cherished by locals, Witty's Lagoon features a large sandy beach and calm, clean waters for swimming and sunbathing. You’ll also find a staffed nature centre, and plenty of trails and footpaths to enjoy. Find out more!

View Royal & Westshore, Thetis Lake, sunny day

Home to Canada's first nature sanctuary. Features a beach and a fresh water lake for swimming, canoeing, and fishing. The park also features public washrooms and change rooms, and plenty of areas for picnicking. Thetis Lake is surrounded by a scenic walking and hiking trail through Garry Oaks, Douglas Firs, wild brush, and flowers. Also attached to the park is the Thetis-Langford Connector Trail: a 1.3-kilometre walking/cycling trail that connects to other trails including the Galloping Goose Regional Trail. (Dogs are welcome on the trail, but between the months of June 1st through September 15th, dogs are not permitted on the beach and main park area, except to pass through without stopping on-leash). Please note that horseback riders sometimes use the trail, and so dogs must immediately be leashed when approaching horses on the trail. Find out more!

The Q Centre: Formerly known as Bear Mountain Arena. An indoor, mid-sized, arena and stadium that seats over 3000-people and features 10 box suites, concessions, a state-of-the-art digital sound system, and hosts local sports teams. 

Westhills Arena: Brand-new, indoor, NHL-sized ice arena and a seasonal outdoor skating pond located in the Westhills community.

 Located on Wale Road in Colwood. Displays pieces from Canadian artists and offers art classes and workshops to kids, teens, and adults. Find out more!

Every Sunday between April 1st to September 30th (weather-permitting), Western Speedway transforms into Vancouver Island's largest outdoor community Swap and Shop flea market, featuring local produce, food vendors, plants, home and garden wares, vintage finds, jewellery, and collectibles. From July 11 to August 24, between 6pm - 8pm, every Thursday night, the Royal Bay community comes together to socialize, picnic, do arts & crafts, relax, and play at Glen Lake Park. Bring your own picnic dinner. Games, activities, and crafts are included.  Find out more.

Every year, on the second-to-last Saturday of September, the community of Westhills comes alive with art, lights, live music, and splendour. The community is also welcomed to participate in the three lantern-making workshops that take place in the days leading up to the festival.  Find out more.

Every Saturday, from May through October, Veterans Memorial Park hosts its annual farmers market, featuring local food, baking, produce, works by artists, live music, and activities for the kids. Participants are welcome to showcase and sell their own plants, produce, foodstuffs, arts, crafts, and baking. Find out more!


Every year on the first weekend of December, Greater Victoria gets a jolt of holiday spirit, thanks to Westshore's Christmas Light Up and the magical IEOA Truck Light Parade, hosted by the Island Equipment Owners Association. Big wheelers compete by adorning their rigs with as much Christmas sparkle and spirit as they possibly can before parading them through the communities of Greater Victoria. The community shows their support by cheering them on and contributing foodstuffs to support their food drive. The Truck Light Parade starts at 8pm, and is preceded by the opening of the Goldstream Station Christmas Market, a visit from Santa himself, Christmas greetings, a countdown to the town's Christmas tree light up, and the official light up itself. Retail, GROCERY & DINING

In View Royal and Westshore, you’ll discover several caches of shops, restaurants, cafes, grocers and other services. Following is a list of the areas’ most notable retail districts.

Millstream Village Shopping Centre: Large outdoor shopping centre located on the right side of Millstream Road as you enter Langford from the Trans Canada Highway. Features a large Market on Millstream grocery store and Michaels Crafts, as well as many large retail chains, pharmacies, restaurants, and coffee shops. 

Millstream Road and McCallum: Located across from Millstream Village Shopping Centre as you enter Langford from the Trans Canada Highway, you'll find a stretch of large retailers including a Home Depot, Liquor Planet, and Best Buy. Up McCallum Road you'll find Costco. 

Westshore Town Centre: Langford's largest indoor and outdoor shopping centre that includes a Home Sense, Fairway Market, Sport Chek, and other popular retail chains as well as a Cineplex Odeon. Great Canadian Superstore is located within the same city block, behind the mall, on Langford Pkwy.

 Langford Parkway and Veterans Memorial: Located around the back of Westshore Town Centre , you'll find even more shops and services, including a Canadian Tire, The Brick, Moksha Yoga, and the Real Canadian Superstore. Across the street you'll find Walmart. And further up Langford Parkway, towards Westhills, is a Quality Foods.

Admirals Walk Shopping Centre: A mid-sized, outdoor plaza bordering View Royal and the neighbouring district of Esquimalt. Features a Thrifty Foods, liquor store, dentist, optometrist, nail salon, pharmacy, small shops, restaurants, and food vendors. 
 

Goldstream Village: An outdoor strip of restaurants, cafes, grocers, and shops along Goldstream Avenue between Veterans Memorial Parkway and Phipps Road.

Goldstream Avenue at Sooke Road: Located in Colwood, where Goldstream Avenue and Sook Road meet. This outdoor city block of shops features a large London Drugs, Rexall Pharmacy, Thrifty Foods, a health food store, medical spa, liquor store, cafes, financial institutions, and more. 

Costco Wholesale: Conveniently located in the Millstream retail district of Langford, across the street from Millstream Village Shopping Centre. You can access Costco by turning onto McCallum Road from Millstream. 

Real Canadian Superstore: Features Joe Fresh, PC Optimum, groceries, pharmacy, gas bar, garden centre, optical services, medical clinic and more. Located in Langford, behind Westshore Town Centre, on Langford Parkway.

Eagle Creek Village: Located in View Royal, where Helmcken Road meets Watkiss Way. A newly erected neighbourhood retail centre featuring a large Quality Foods, Starbucks, Bosley's Pet Food, YMCA/YWCA, various shops, amenities, and vendors. Helmcken Market is also located across the street.

View Royal/Westshore has good public transit, with daily routes connecting Westshore to Downtown Victoria and surrounding areas, including routes that go directly to the Westhills, Thetis Lake, and Bear Mountain communities. A public transit improvement plan is in the works which will help reduce bus commute times by 20%.
